When I was younger I really hated Valentine's Day. I thought it was stupid but mostly, it was just me being bitter because I was single and all my friends were in relationships. After having a boyfriend for Valentine's Day for a few years, I realized that the day is just a day. It doesn't feel more special than others but it is nice to spend it with someone.
However, it no longer makes me sad. I don't mind it as much because I know what it's like to experience it with someone but I also know that I can be my own Valentine. It's a day of love and there are all kinds of love in the world so whoever you love, I hope you can spend a little time with them today.
That includes yourself. I definitely feel like I'm on some sort of self-love journey in a noncorny or woo-woo way. I'm just learning to accept the things I cannot change, the flaws in my body, mind, and spirit, and how to take better care of myself.
No one is ever going to love you the way you do so learning how to spend time alone, how to treat yourself, and what makes you happy is essential... good news for me, I'm aware of all of those things LOL.
So, if you're single or just not able to be with anyone on this made-up holiday, what better way to spend Valentine's Day than with yourself? I've rounded up some ideas of how to spend the day, all of which are amongst my favorite things to do!
Spa Night
Retail Therapy
Curl Up & Be Cozy
There are a few things I love more in the world that being snuggled under a blanket, the lights are off, candles are lit, my favorite movie or show is on the television and I have the twinkle lights going. Being in a calm, quiet and cozy set-up is my ideal night in and nothing makes me more peaceful and fully relaxed. It opens my mind, relaxes me, and allows me to fully breathe.
Bake Something Sweet
Or cook something savory...whatever floats your boat! Cooking something delicious is one of my favorite things to do. I feel so proud of myself afterwards and it's really rewarding... but only if it's not too complicated and I don't get frustrated with myself. Baking is something I do when I'm feeling a little bored or anxious, but it's also a fun thing to do. Valentine's Day is all about the sweets so I indulge a little too much on the holiday, between baked goods, special edition pastries, and so much chocolate.
No matter what you do this Valentine's Day, make sure you're being kind to yourself because you deserve it.
