I am an extremely high strung person. I stress out way too easily and create scenarios in my head to worry about. I've come to the conclusion that I'm insane and really don't know how to just chill out.
I'm working on it, I promise.
What I've learned along my travels in that worrying gets you no where and there is no need to catastrophize everything. Most of the time I worry about stuff that isn't there and I'm being dramatic by creating a problem in my head.
I've been trying to find ways to relax and just get outside my head for a bit. It's difficult but it's working.
//Excerise: Everyone says it but I never believed it. Exercising is the perfect way to get your blood moving and sweat out your problems. I'm not going to go into all the medical, health benefits of excerise but mentally, it just feels so good. You're moving, you're focused and it feels amazing. I've been trying to excerise a few times a week and especially when I'm feeling stressed and anxious and it really has made all the difference.
//Read: Getting lost in a good book is another great way to unwind. It takes you to another world and if it's a really good story, it's something to look forward to doing. I've gotten back into reading recently and was obsessed with my two most recent reads "Big Little Lies" and "Gone Girl". It was great having them, waiting for me at home after a day at work because it gave me something to do instead of laying in bed and worrying about nonsense.
//Netflix: In the same genre as reading, starting a new Netflix series is the best way to get out of your head. I love wasting my time or multi tasking with Netflix in the background. You get lost in the stories of the characters and it's once again, something to do and look forward too.
//Journal: Writing has always been a form of therapy for me. It helps you talk things through and seeing your worries on paper just makes them real, and you're able to see how silly they actually are. Getting everything out of my head just makes me feel 100x better.
//Baking or Crafting: This is a random one but doing something with my hands, creating something, helps me so much. It gives me something to do and at the end, I have a great product whether it's pumpkin muffins or a new little decoration.
Doing anything that takes your mind off your silly stresses is beneficial to you, both mentally and physically. Stress and anxiety is the least fun thing and it truly can ruin your life. Take charge and make a change.
What do you do to relax?
